I’ve never made a painting this quiet before.

Most of my work begins with energy — movement, pressure, fracture, force. My Power & Resilience series, especially, has spoken in the language of geology and momentum. But this painting arrived differently. It didn’t push. It didn’t demand. It appeared.

I’ve spent years as a designer—organizing, shaping, creating clarity from complexity. And now as a painter—letting go of control, working through instinct, material, and feeling. This project asked me to do both at once. Not just do them—but let them speak to each other.

Two hundred forty miles. Ten days. A raft, a river, and a current older than memory.

I joined the trip knowing it would be an adventure — white water, canyon walls, movement — but what stayed with me wasn’t the distance or the scale. It was a single recurring moment: the instant a rapid rises, the raft lifts, and the river comes over the top of us.

Creating Nurture was not simply the making of a painting. It was a passage through memory, grief, and love — a space where something deeply personal asked to be seen.

Creating "Nurture" has been a journey through the deepest corners of my heart, a canvas that holds the memories and emotions of a time when life was abruptly reshaped. My sister's battle with cancer was a defining chapter in my life. Diagnosed at the tender age of 36, she fought valiantly, but the battle ended all too soon at the age of 40. The pain of her loss remains, but it has transformed into a driving force behind my artistry.
